Utah murder suspect’s extradition sought by Sheriff’s Office.

An Investigation Leads Detectives to Salt Lake City

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Detectives with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit recently traveled to Salt Lake City, Utah, after receiving information from the Salt Lake City Police Department. The information suggested that a 33-year-old man, Steven Matthew Macias, might have direct knowledge of the murder of Jose Luis Arvizu, 51.

At the time, Macias was already in custody at the Salt Lake City County Metro Jail, facing unrelated charges.

Arrest Warrant Issued for Macias

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office obtained an arrest warrant for Steven Matthew Macias on Monday, June 19, in connection with the death of Jose Luis Arvizu.

Pending Extradition and Bond

Macias is currently awaiting extradition to El Paso County to face the murder charges. The arrest warrant carries a bond of $2 million.
