Coolio Died From Fentanyl Overdose
The music industry lost a legend when the ever-popular “Gangsta’s Paradise” rapper, Coolio, passed away on September 28, 2023. The rapper was found unconscious on the bathroom floor of a friend’s house in Los Angeles, where he was pronounced dead shortly after emergency services arrived. According to reports, he died of a fentanyl overdose, and traces of heroin and methamphetamines were also found in his system.
His family’s spokesperson, Jarel ‘Jarez’ Posey, also revealed that the rapper had been a cigarette smoker for decades, intensifying the effects asthma had on his body, leading to his body’s inability to fight back.
Coolio’s Legacy
Coolio’s seven grown-up children are determined to keep their father’s legacy alive. For this reason, his children plan to produce documentaries and films about the great man who was their father. They aim to continue the legacy that was his music, leaving behind a mark that will never fade away.
The family announced that Coolio was cremated and that they had made necklaces containing a pendant holding his ashes. Each of his children was able to personalize their pendant with an inscription, making sure his memory lives on.
Coolio’s Estate
Coolio died without a will, leaving his children to inherit his $300,000 estate, including all of his personal property, demand deposit accounts, financial accounts, insurance policies, and royalties.
The rapper had ten children, four of whom he had with his ex-wife Josefa Salinas, and another six from different relationships.
Coolio’s Cremation
The guest list for Coolio’s cremation was strictly limited, reportedly to prevent a potential outbreak of tension between the mothers of his children. The measure was so stringent that some friends who had known him for decades failed to attend.
Coolio’s Late Girlfriend Mimi
Coolio was in a relationship with his long-term girlfriend Mimi, who had been with him since 2012. Mimi was an exotic dancer and chef who revealed that she knew about Coolio’s other relationships, and they had come to an arrangement. They were best friends and enjoyed each other’s company, having never had a dull moment together.

Coolio overcame obstacles of poverty and drug addiction during his rise to fame. Despite that, he became one of the greatest rappers of all time, having touched the hearts of many with his catchy lyrics and unique style.
At the time of his death, Jarez told TMZ that the rapper went to use the bathroom before his death and never came out. His concerned friend eventually went to check on him and found him collapsed on the floor, thus calling emergency workers.
