I am not a game developer, but I am a software developer. I have found that many of these tips also apply to software development. In particular, I think that starting with a plan, focusing on gameplay, and keeping purposeful controls are important for both game and software development. I also think that testing often and paying attention to the storyline are important for both game and software development.
