Important Things To Know
Currency
When traveling to Mexico City, it’s important to know that the official currency is the Mexican Peso. You can exchange your currency for pesos at banks, exchange offices, and airports. Some businesses, especially smaller ones, may only accept cash, so it’s important to carry some pesos with you.
National Languages
While there are many indigenous languages spoken in Mexico, the most commonly spoken language in Mexico City and throughout the country is Spanish. While some hotel staff may speak English, it’s always a good idea to try to use some basic Spanish phrases to communicate with locals. It shows that you are making an effort to connect with the local culture and people.
Climate And Weather
As you plan your trip to Mexico City, it’s important to note that the climate is subtropical. Despite the tropical latitude, the high altitude can make nights chilly, especially in the winter months. While days in winter are still generally pleasant, you’ll want to pack some warm clothing for nights out.
The wet season runs from May to October, with July and August being the wettest months. Spring is considered the warmest season, but nights can still be chilly. Towards the end of spring, the first rains start to arrive which occurs usually in May. Autumn/Fall is quite short compared to other seasons in Mexico City, and winter days are dry and pleasant, but nights can get quite chilly.
