New library dedicated to Black culture opens in Sullivan County

A dedicated space for exploring Black history and culture, named “The Black Library,” has opened in the Village of Monticello.

The Black Library offers an array of books authored by Black writers, artist studio spaces, and a photo studio.

The grand opening festivities are ongoing until Friday and include special events such as tonight’s paint and sip session, scheduled for 7 p.m.


The Village of Monticello in Sullivan County is now home to a new library that celebrates the history and culture of Black communities. Named “The Black Library,” this dedicated space offers a range of resources and facilities designed to immerse visitors in the rich heritage and artistic contributions of Black writers.

Exploring Black History and Culture
