MLB expands with 2024 games in 4 countries.

Major League Baseball Announces 2024 World Tour Series in Four International Destinations

In a recent announcement, Major League Baseball (MLB) revealed its plans for the 2024 World Tour Series, which will take place in four international locations. The tour will feature games in London, Mexico City, Seoul, and Santo Domingo, marking the first time MLB regular season games will be played in Korea.

The Seoul Series will open the 2024 MLB regular season and will see the Los Angeles Dodgers face off against the San Diego Padres on March 20-21. This marks the ninth time that the MLB season will open outside of the United States and Canada, with previous international openers including cities such as Tokyo, Sydney, and San Juan.

Following the Seoul Series, the MLB World Tour will continue with the Mexico City Series, featuring the Houston Astros versus the Colorado Rockies on April 27-28. This will be the second consecutive year that MLB games are played in Mexico City, following the success of the 2023 Mexico City Series. The Astros and Rockies previously played in exhibition games in Monterrey, Mexico.

The London Series will make a return with the New York Mets taking on the Philadelphia Phillies on June 8-9 at London Stadium. This will be the third installment of the London Series, with previous games attracting growing interest in baseball in the United Kingdom. The Mets have a history of international games, participating in MLB’s first-ever international regular season games in 1996.

In addition to the regular season series, the Red Sox and Rays will kick off the 2024 MLB season with a Spring Training series in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. The games will take place at Estadio Quisqueya on March 9-10. This provides an opportunity to celebrate the Dominican Republic’s rich baseball heritage and the impact of Dominican players on the sport.

MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred expressed excitement about the international games and the growing enthusiasm for baseball globally. He emphasized the importance of returning to Mexico City and London while also opening the season in Korea for the first time. Baseball has a deep interest in expanding its presence in new communities and allowing fans worldwide to witness the skill and passion of the game’s stars.

The MLB World Tour also includes exhibition games and will feature up to 16 exhibition games being played internationally between 2023 and 2026. Additionally, up to 24 regular-season games will be played spanning across Asia, Europe, and Latin America. MLB aims to continue growing its international footprint and showcasing the excitement of the game to fans around the world.
