Juniata River Valley Chamber of Commerce Business and Education Committee Discusses Free-Wheeling Day
The Juniata River Valley Chamber of Commerce Business and Education Committee met on Thursday to hear updates on upcoming events and ongoing initiatives in the region.
One of the key topics of discussion was Free-Wheeling Day, an annual event in which local businesses and agencies provide career experience to fourth-graders in the area.
This year’s Free-Wheeling Day is scheduled for May 24 at the Youth Park in Reedsville. According to committee chair Cher Harpster, the event provides an opportunity for elementary-age students to have a real-world, hands-on experience with a career and interact with professionals in the workforce.
The committee also received updates on Academy Signing Day, an event similar to an athlete’s letter of intent signing day, but for students signing with potential employers. This year’s Academy Signing Day at the Mifflin County Academy of Science and Technology is scheduled for May 17.
In addition to these events, the committee discussed plans for two college and career fairs in Mifflin and Juniata counties that are set to take place in October, as well as updates on various academic programs and partnerships within the community.
The Chamber of Commerce also highlighted a number of upcoming events, while the Penn State Extension announced two events of their own: Getting the Most From Your Grant-Writing Efforts and Celebrate Ag Day.
Overall, the meeting provided an opportunity for community leaders to stay up-to-date on key initiatives and events happening throughout the region.
