University of Texas Men’s Basketball Ranks No. 7 in Final USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll

The University of Texas Men’s Basketball team has achieved its third-highest ranking in the final USA TODAY Sports Coaches poll in program history, coming in at No. 7. This marks the highest ranking for the team since achieving a No. 5 ranking following the 2007-08 season. Texas has made 15 appearances in the final Coaches rankings since the poll began in the 1982-83 season, with this being the fifth time the Longhorns have ranked in the top 10 in the final Coaches poll.

Impressive Record for the 2023-23 Season

Texas finished the 2023-23 season with an overall record of 29-9 (12-6 Big 12), in addition to winning the Phillips 66 Big 12 postseason tournament and advancing to the NCAA Tournament’s Elite Eight for the first time since 2008. The team’s 29 wins mark the third-most victories in a season in program history. In addition, Texas set a school record for most wins against AP-ranked teams, boasting a mark of 10-7.

Texas Also Ranks High in AP Poll and KenPom Rankings

The Longhorns were ranked No. 5 in the final Associated Press poll, matching their highest ranking in the final AP poll in program history. The team also earned a No. 2 seed in the 2023 NCAA Tournament, marking the highest seed for the Longhorns in the NCAA tourney since 2008.

Furthermore, Texas was one of only three schools to rank in the Top 15 in the final 2023-23 KenPom rankings in both adjusted offensive and defensive efficiency, alongside UConn and Houston.
