Hard work pays off for Valley high school student
PHOENIX — Ryan Tran, a student at University High School in Tolleson, has achieved his goal of getting his private pilot’s license. While other high school students were spending their summer doing odd jobs or hanging out with friends, Tran was focused on his mission to become a pilot. He recently completed the U.S. Navy’s prestigious Summer Flight Academy program, where he received his FAA private pilot license and five college credits.
Tran’s journey was filled with hard work and determination. He never thought he would be able to achieve his dream, but here he is with his pilot’s certificate. Now, he plans to continue pursuing a career in aviation and is excited to study at USC on a full-ride Navy scholarship this fall.
The Intensive Summer Flight Academy Program
The U.S. Navy’s Summer Flight Academy program is a highly competitive 8-week program for high school juniors and seniors. This year, 28 students from across the country were selected to participate in the program at Delaware State University. The program aims to identify and train future leaders in naval aviation. The students undergo rigorous training, including academic studies, physical readiness, and aviation aptitude tests.
The Navy partners with select universities throughout the country to provide this elite flight training to the chosen students. The program costs about $26,000 per student, but in Ryan Tran’s case, it was offered at no cost with no obligations.
Looking Towards the Future
Ryan Tran is an impressive young man who has proven that anything is possible when you reach for the stars. He encourages others to seize every opportunity that comes their way. Tran’s achievements are a testament to his hard work and dedication, and he serves as an inspiration to his peers and the next generation of leaders.
Tran’s journey will continue as he begins his studies at USC and explores the opportunities of ROTC. He looks forward to experiencing college life and continuing to pursue his passion for aviation.
