North Carolina’s Armando Bacot to Return for Fifth Season of Eligibility
North Carolina big man Armando Bacot has announced that he will be returning to school for his fifth season of eligibility, citing the desire to improve and not wanting to leave UNC on a low note.
Bacot’s Impressive Career at North Carolina
Bacot, who just finished his senior season with the Tar Heels, has had an impressive career at North Carolina. He holds the record for the most rebounds in program history and also leads in double-doubles. Bacot also passed Michael Jordan on the school’s all-time scoring list in 2023, taking over the 14th spot.
Bacot’s Stellar Season
In his final season with UNC, Bacot averaged 15.9 points (55.4% from the floor), 10.4 rebounds, 1.4 assists, and one block per game. Despite his efforts, the Tar Heels missed the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2010 and declined an invitation to the NIT. Bacot’s best season came as a junior when he averaged 16.3 points and 13.1 rebounds per game, leading the Tar Heels to the 2023 National Championship Game despite an ankle injury.
Coming Back Stronger
With the extra year of eligibility due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Bacot has decided to return to North Carolina for his fifth season to continue improving his game and helping the Tar Heels succeed on the court. “I felt it was the right decision for my future,” Bacot said. “But I also know I need to improve and feel like this is the best place to do that.”
Looking Ahead
North Carolina fans are eager to see what Bacot can accomplish in his final season with the team. With his talent and leadership, the Tar Heels could be a force to be reckoned with in the 2023-24 season.
