Barbie-inspired Outfits: Margot Robbie’s Pink Perfection

Barbie fans around the world were left disappointed when the iconic press tour, featuring Margot Robbie in a range of doll-inspired outfits, came to an abrupt end on July 13. However, Robbie’s pink perfection on the red carpet provided a glimpse of the Barbie-inspired looks we could have seen had the press tour continued.

A Fashion Tribute to Barbie

Margot Robbie, the star of the highly-anticipated movie, turned heads with her impeccable fashion choices, which paid homage to Barbie dolls. Working closely with stylist Andrew Mukamal, Robbie flawlessly cosplayed as various iterations of Barbie, from the original doll released in 1959 to the Pink and Fabulous version from 2015.

The Best Looks

Robbie’s wardrobe during the press tour featured some standout looks that captured the essence of Barbie dolls throughout the decades.

1960s-inspired Pink Perfection

In a nod to the 1964 Sparkling Pink Barbie, Robbie wore an embellished bright pink two-piece outfit with a matching pillbox hat. She completed the look with accessories such as a heart-shaped bag, pink Manolo Blahnik mules, and Tiffany & Co. pearl earrings.

A Vintage Recreation

In Sydney, Robbie paid homage to the original 1959 Barbie by wearing a striped black-and-white dress by Hervé Léger. Complementing the dress with black peep-toe Manolo Blahnik heels, white cat-eye sunglasses, hoop earrings, and a high ponytail, Robbie recreated the iconic look of the classic doll from the ’50s.

Totally Hair Barbie Vibes

For her appearance in Mexico City, Robbie drew inspiration from the 1992 Totally Hair Barbie. Sporting crimped hair, she wore a patterned Pucci minidress, bright pink Manolo Blahnik pumps, and fluorescent pink Chanel logo earrings.

Pink Carpet Extravaganza

Robbie surprised fans by choosing a non-pink look for the world premiere in Los Angeles. Channeling the 1960 Solo in the Spotlight Barbie, she dazzled in a black sequined strapless gown by Schiaparelli with a tulle hem. Accurate accessories, including black Manolo Blahnik mules, completed the glamorous ensemble.

A Playful Two-for-One

Fans in Seoul enjoyed a double treat as Robbie showcased two looks inspired by the 1985 Day to Night Barbie. Her Versace outfits consisted of a bubblegum-pink skirt suit with white detailing, accessorized with a Judith Leiber clutch in the shape of a retro-style brick phone. For the second look, Robbie changed into a glittering pink Versace dress, adding pink Manolo Blahnik peep-toes and a sparkly bag.

Enchanting in London

During the London premiere, Robbie channeled the 1960 and 1995 dolls named Enchanted Evening Barbie. Wearing a blush-pink satin dress by Vivienne Westwood Couture with a tulle train and fuzzy white stole, Robbie completed the enchanting look with ivory opera gloves and a crystal rosette at the waist.

A Balmain Barbie

Another Mexico City appearance showcased a custom Balmain outfit inspired by the 1992 Earring Magic Barbie. Robbie stunned in a hot-pink leather minidress, paired with a pink long-sleeve mesh top. Silver accessories, Barbie pink Manolo Blahnik pumps, and a silver chain with a star medallion added the finishing touches.

A Touch of Red

Breaking away from Barbie’s signature pink, Robbie opted for a tiny red dress by designer Dilara Findikoglu. The outfit paid tribute to the 1962 Brunette Bubble Cut Barbie. With a scarlet strapless minidress featuring corset detail, Robbie looked absolutely stunning.

A Modern Twist

During a photocall in Beverly Hills, Robbie took style inspiration from the modern 2015 Pink and Fabulous Barbie. Wearing a pink and white polka dot cut-out dress by Valentino, she added a yellow handbag, white Manolo Blahnik heels, and completed the look with the perfect retro Barbie car.

Barbie will be released worldwide in cinemas on July 21.
