Record-breaking Champion qualifies for state meet.

Kennady Grace, a junior at Champion High School, surpassed her own school record and took home the regional crown in the discus event with a throw of 125-0 at the Division II, Region 5 meet at Austintown Fitch High School. Despite a rocky start in practice, Grace was determined to make it to the state meet after missing the cut last year with a fifth-place finish. Rylee Hutton, a junior at Salem, achieved her goal of breaking the school’s long jump record with a leap of 17 feet, 4.75 inches, earning her second place in the event behind Kalie Campbell of Triway. Hutton’s record-breaking jump came after a week and a half off from jumping due to a hamstring injury, which she re-aggravated on her final attempt. Sieasia Triplett, a Girard senior, won the 100 and 200-meter individual races and anchored her team’s winning 4×100 relay team, securing her a place in the upcoming state meet in Columbus.
