Lawsuit: Man stole winning Powerball ticket in California.

Lawsuit: Man stole winning Powerball ticket in California.

A lawsuit has been filed against Edwin Castro, the California man who won the $2 billion Powerball jackpot last year, accusing him of stealing the winning ticket from a fellow California resident named Jose Rivera. The suit was filed in Los Angeles County in February and lists the California Lottery Commission and California resident Urachi “Reggie” Romero as defendants. Rivera alleges that Romero stole the winning ticket from him after he purchased it at Joe’s Service Center in Altadena, California, on November 7, 2022. The lawsuit does not explain how Castro obtained the ticket. The California Lottery Commission has said it is confident that Castro is the rightful winner of the jackpot, but local law enforcement will investigate the allegations brought by Rivera. The case’s next major hearing is scheduled for July 24.
