Social Democrat leader in Austria retires after loss.

Austria’s centre-left party, the Social Democratic Party, faces a leadership crisis after its former leader, Pamela Rendi-Wagner, announced her full retirement from politics. Rendi-Wagner, who has led the party since 2018, decided to retire after finishing third in a party leadership contest. This decision comes ahead of the continued leadership contest on 3 June, in which the party’s 609 delegates will decide who will lead the party. Observers have raised concerns over the divided state of the Austrian social democrats and their ability to perform well in the upcoming elections.
