USA and Mexico Draw in Low-Key Friendly
In an exhibition match lacking star players on both sides, the United States managed to salvage a 1-1 tie against Mexico, thanks to Jesús Ferreira’s late goal. Uriel Antuna had earlier scored for Mexico in the 55th minute, taking advantage of an American giveaway.
Ferreira, who now has eight goals in 18 international appearances, scored the equalizer for the US in the 81st minute. The goal arose from a counterattack following Carlos Rodríguez’s shot that hit the crossbar. It may not have been a FIFA international fixture date, but both teams took it seriously, knowing they would face each other again in the CONCACAF Nations League semifinal on June 15 in Las Vegas.
The two teams will likely field their top players for that game, but for now, this draw will serve as a valuable experience for the younger and less experienced players that featured in this match.
