Police search for suspects after officers shot in downtown Orlando
Police are currently searching for two suspects following the shooting and critical injury of two officers in downtown Orlando on Friday night. The incident occurred around 11 p.m. in the area of Garland Avenue and Washington Street.
According to Orlando Police Chief Eric Smith, the officers were investigating a vehicle that was wanted in connection to a homicide in Miami when one of the suspects shot and injured them. The suspect then proceeded to carjack another vehicle, leading to a vehicle pursuit.
A manhunt is currently underway near the Marden Ridge apartments close to Apopka as the police continue their search for the suspects. The injured officers remain in critical condition at Orlando Regional Medical Center, and their identities have not been released.
Law enforcement agencies offer support and condolences
Orlando Police Department has received assistance from several other law enforcement agencies, who have expressed their condolences for the injured officers. The Orange County Sheriff’s Office tweeted their support, stating that they are standing with the OPD partners and doing everything they can to bring the suspects to justice.
Daytona Beach Police Chief Jakari Young also expressed his support and offered resources to the Orlando Police in pursuit of the suspects, tweeting prayers for the injured officers.
Well-wishes continue to pour in from Seminole County to Titusville, as the community shows their support for the injured officers and their recovery.
