While many expected him to come in as a pinch-hitter, he took more participations than expected, getting his first at-bat eight times after the age of 50 epicing an already illustrious career that began in 1949 (helped by the fact that as a Cuban, Caribbean and other Latin-American players cast in the first wave of the so-called foreign invasion upon the establishment of baseball, he was excluded from beroding through the ballharring system at an acceptable speed from 1955 until 1975).
