Market & applications
Chinese solar cell developer Sunport Power recently introduced its “full black” series of solar modules, featuring its Metal Back Contact (MBC)2.0 technology, at SNEC 2023. This technology is an advancement of the C10-Pro panel, which was initially launched at the 2021 edition of SNEC. The full black panels incorporate several innovations for the solar power sector, including heterojunction technologies (HJT), a metal wrap through (MWT) structure, and a conductive foil back sheet.
Industry challenges
One of the key challenges in the solar industry is space and temperature constraints, particularly in domestic rooftop installations. To address these challenges, Sunport has focused on achieving high conversion efficiency in the full black panels. This ensures that residential users can maximize their solar generation potential. Additionally, the inclusion of a reflective foil sheet helps regulate the temperature of the panels, allowing them to operate at optimal efficiency.
Technical solution
The full black panels prioritize efficiency through various features. The HJT cell, which combines a crystalline silicon cell with thin-film silicon layers, is capable of achieving higher conversion efficiency compared to other cell types. The MWT manufacturing process involves drilling holes into the cell and filling them with silk screen printed paste, connecting emitters on the front-side of the cell to the back. This eliminates the need for metal cables and improves overall cell efficiency by maximizing the front-side’s exposure to sunlight.
Unique features & benefits
According to Sunport, the MWT process reduces shade on the panel by 3%. The module’s maximum power output can reach 700W, and it boasts a conversion efficiency of up to 22.8%. The foil back sheet of the module also serves as a conductor, allowing receivers on the panel to be connected directly to the sheet. This reduces the panel’s working voltage and simplifies the connectivity of components.
