Welcome to the World of Peculiar Oddities!
Embrace the Weird
Life can be strange at times. But there’s nothing like a particularly curious specimen of the bizarre to make us appreciate it all the more. It’s those weird and wacky things that make us grin in amazement or recoil in gross-out horror. Let’s take a step off the beaten path and celebrate some of the most peculiar oddities in existence.
The Fish Turned Fossil
Mother Nature never ceases to amaze us with her strange creations. The Coelacanth is an excellent example. The fish has five fins, primitive-looking eyes and a lung-like appendage that allows it to breathe air! It was believed that this fish had been extinct for millions of years. However, scientists buzzed with excitement when the Coelacanth was discovered off the coast of South Africa in 1938.
Adventures in Goldfish Swallowing
It’s not uncommon for college kids to pull pranks on one another, but this trend might be tough to beat. From the mid-1900s to the mid-1960s, goldfish swallowing was a type of performance art that took America by storm. Weak stomachs – be warned: the deed is exactly as deplorable as it sounds. Street performers tried everything from living in glass boxes to stage crude replicas of famous paintings. However, none was expected to use living goldfishes as art pieces.
Crocodile in the Sewer
There is a popular belief that claims crocodiles are roaming through New York City sewers. The story originally began in the 1920s after apparently, some exotic pets were released down the drain as they outgrew their usefulness. And whenever a new story erupts based on eyewitnesses, it has held up the myth of the croc in the sewer alive fresh. Although so far not one of these infamous reptiles has been discovered.
Raining Frogs
Just as the fantastic musical stylings of Creed’s Scott Stapp tell us, sometimes, you just need to dare to take a leap of faith. However, when it rains hard enough, you might come across something unexpected. Some cities reported itty-bitty pieces of something shrieking through their doors from the sky, and they discovered that they were miniature frogs. In reality, scientists presumably spawned smaller waterspouts that otherwise tend to pick up periodic rains with whatever has jumped – small fish or frogs being the most frequently swept off.
Life is too much about creating environmental havoc and continuously punching at the natural world. Give the bizarre and peculiar a bit of respect for change; it makes our planet a fascinating and memorable jewel in an unremarkable universe. Hope you’ve enjoyed this adventure ride reserved for far-fetched oddities!
