Opportunities for Hunter Education Courses in Louisa and Henry Counties
Hunters who still need to get certified through a hunter education course have two opportunities with classes in Louisa and Henry Counties.
Langwood Education Center in Wapello
The first course is held at the Langwood Education Center in Wapello. The class schedule is as follows:
- Thursday, August 17: 6-9 p.m.
- Saturday, August 19: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Field day for hunters under 18; online courses available in place of Thursday’s class)
Most online courses may require a fee.
Aim High Shooting in Salem
In Henry County, a hunter education course will also be held at Aim High Shooting in Salem. The class runs from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and covers various topics including basic survival and first aid skills, water safety, wildlife identification, wildlife management basics, hunting laws, and firearm/archery safety.
Requirements
Iowa residents born after January 1, 1972, and nonresidents born after January 1, 1967, must complete a hunter education course to obtain a hunting license. Participants for either course must be at least 11 years old, but certificates are not valid until the child’s 12th birthday.
