The Rise of Deepfakes and AI
The widespread use of artificial intelligence (AI) and the proliferation of deepfakes has been a cause for concern across the world. Studies in the UK and other countries have found that thousands of famous people have fallen victim to deepfake pornography and suffered due to digitally altered videos that were created using AI.
Deepfakes in India
In India, videos of celebrities like Rashmika Mandana, Katrina Kaif, and Aamir Khan have circulated on the internet, only to later be exposed as fake. The latest target of deepfakes appears to be Shah Rukh Khan, who is allegedly “seen” with his wife Gauri and son Aryan in images purportedly from Mecca.
The photos first surfaced around the New Year, with claims that SRK and his family visited the holy city on the first day of the year. The images show SRK, Gauri, and Aryan against the backdrop of the grand mosque in Mecca.
The Truth Unveiled
Several outlets picked up the story and it started gaining traction on social media. However, it was soon revealed that the photo was fake and generated using AI. Some Instagram handles even posted the photo, clearly mentioning that it was produced using AI.
Shah Rukh and Gauri’s Relationship
Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri got married on October 25, 1991. In a 2005 interview on Karan Johar’s show Koffee With Karan, Gauri Khan spoke about the mutual respect and harmony in their household. She emphasized the importance of respecting each other’s religions, stating that Shah Rukh would never disrespect her religion, and she would not disrespect his.
SRK also shared insights about their relationship in an ‘#AskSRK’ session. When asked about the secret to a good married life, Shah Rukh Khan expressed admiration for Gauri’s simplicity and her belief in the goodness of family and love.
