Offbeat Artifacts Raises $2,500 for Local Library
Offbeat Artifacts, an event started by Sea Cliff resident Mike Lennon in 2013, has become a staple of the village’s cultural life. The event, which sees items donated by Sea Cliff residents put on sale, raises funds for the village library.
In May 2023, the event raised roughly $2,500 in a single day, with 200 people in attendance. The event has grown over the last decade and has become a multi-person operation. While it used to be held every Saturday morning, it is now only held every few months.
Lennon, a retired firefighter, started Offbeat Artifacts by holding impromptu garage sales with strange and interesting items left over from estate sales. Rather than pocketing the profits for himself, he decided to donate the funds to the local library.
Offbeat Artifacts: A Labor of Love
Despite the long hours, Lennon and his team of volunteers transport items from residents’ homes to the village green and set up shop for the day. According to Lennon, there is a magical atmosphere that everyone feeds off of, making it a true labor of love.
While there were many unique and appealing items on display at the May event, Lennon’s favorite was a nine-foot-long welder’s table on wheels, which he described as “industrial chic.” The success of the event is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the Offbeat Artifacts volunteers.
The next Offbeat Artifacts event is eagerly anticipated by villagers and outlying communities, and Lennon is looking forward to making it a success.
