Ken Schrader Makes History with Win at Ohsweken Speedway
Ken Schrader, a Missouri native, made headlines after becoming the first non-Canadian driver to win in the NASCAR Pinty’s Series. Schrader piloted the No. 22 Chevrolet to victory at the Freshstone Dirt Classic held at Ohsweken Speedway. Not only did he break this barrier, but he also became the oldest driver to win a NASCAR-sanctioned event.
Race Highlights
The race saw Schrader running behind defending Ohsweken winner Treyten Lapcevich for the majority of the event. However, fate turned in Schrader’s favor when Lapcevich made contact with a lapped car driven by Michael Goudie. Capitalizing on this incident, Schrader took the lead with 25 laps remaining and managed to hold off the competition through multiple late-race restarts.
A Strong Finish
Kevin Lacroix finished in a respectable second place, while D.J. Kennington secured the third spot. Lapcevich and Marc-Antoine Camirand completed the top five. Noteworthy performance came from Truck Series regular Stewart Friesen, who finished in sixth place.
Post-Race Interview
After the race, Schrader shared his thoughts with the Pinty’s Series media team. He acknowledged that Lapcevich had been the dominant force throughout the day and highlighted their collaboration during restarts. When Schrader took the lead, he made it clear that he was not simply riding it out; instead, he went to work to secure the win.
A Storied Career
Schrader’s victory adds to his impressive career record, which boasts 18 wins in the ARCA Menards Series, one win in ARCA East, 11 wins in ARCA West, one win in the Truck Series, two wins in the Xfinity Series, and four wins in the Cup Series. This latest triumph not only adds to his stat sheet but also cements his place in racing history.
Upcoming Race
Schrader will have the opportunity to defend his win at Ohsweken Speedway in the upcoming Pinty’s 100 race, scheduled for Wednesday. Fans in the United States can catch the action on FloRacing, while the TSN+ streaming service provides coverage in Canada.
