In this episode of On Record PR, Gina Rubel interviews Kim Scott, author of Just Work and Radical Candor, and co-founder of Radical Candor, an executive education company that helps organizations shift from a culture of command and control to one of collaboration and inclusivity. As a former CEO coach at tech companies like Dropbox, Qualtrics, and Twitter, and a member of faculty at Apple University, Kim shares her expertise in radical candor, a concept she describes as caring personally and challenging directly at the same time. She emphasizes that radical candor is not obnoxious aggression or manipulative insincerity, but rather a balance between caring and challenging. Kim also shares the story of Bob, a former colleague who she failed to give direct, care-filled feedback to, leading to a toxic workplace environment that eventually forced her to let him go. Kim’s experience with Bob inspired her to write the book and help others to learn from their own stories and strive for radical candor in their interactions with their colleagues.
