Pine Belt Education Leaders React to State Superintendent’s Annual Report
PINE BELT, Miss. (WDAM) – Pine Belt education leaders are reacting to the release of the state superintendent of education’s annual report.
The report for the 2023-2024 school year, released Wednesday, showed new levels of student achievement in state testing, in the areas of English Language Arts, Math and Science.
“A lot of people, for so long, saw Mississippi as the bottom of the barrel in everything,” Covington County School District Superintendent Jon Chancelor said. “Well, we’ve shown that Mississippi is making some strides in education.”
According to the report, the graduation rate statewide reached an all-time high of 89.4 percent.
“I’m proud of what’s going on, what continues to go on here in the state,” Columbia School District Superintendent Jason Harris said. “I’m very proud of all the teachers, administrators, students and parents across the state, as you look at the record highs we have set.”
