The Future of Personal Styling
Hear the term ‘personal stylist’ and you probably think of those very glamorous people who help even more glamorous people get ready for events like the Oscars and the Met Gala. Or, what might come to mind is the professionals who do wardrobe overhauls, helping to make over their clients and reorganise their belongings. Both of these scenarios are out of reach for most of us – expensive and extremely time-consuming – but getting help with your wardrobe is about to become more affordable and convenient than ever.
A New Approach to Personal Styling
“I realised that there was demand for a more instant styling service,” says Sara Parker Bowles, the founder of WRAPP10, a new company which is aiming to democratise personal styling and make it more suitable for busy, working women who don’t necessarily have thousands to spend and days to spare on the process.
“It felt like personal styling was reserved for those with a huge amount of disposable income and a lot of free time, which is obviously not true for most of us,” adds Florrie Thomas, former Harper’s Bazaar fashion editor and one of WRAPP10’s stylists.
The idea is that you select a stylist from the brand’s roster, have a video consultation with them – and then receive recommendations and shopping links that fit your unique brief. Prices start from just £80, and the hope is that clients will return again and again for tailored advice, treating the service almost as you would your recurring beauty treatments.
“It can be a great way of addressing special events but we also hope it will be used annually as a way of refreshing your wardrobe and getting things organised,” says Thomas.
One of the most common concerns shoppers face is the struggle of how to put outfits together, and so what WRAPP10 wants to do is to help clients build a strong foundation, but also wear what they’ve already got, just styled better.
“Mindful shopping is at the heart of WRAPP10,” says Parker Bowles. “We are all guilty of not wearing the majority of our wardrobes, and what really good styling advice can result in is being a better, more intelligent shopper and dresser. Once you have a hardworking wardrobe in place, then shopping becomes a joy again because you are only adding little additions to your already strong foundation. This puts an end to expensive mistakes.”
Another goal is that this level of personal curation and advice will help to cut through the noise of the exhausting and endless influencer recommendations seen all over social media.
“We are all overwhelmed by the choice – the plethora of trends on Tiktok can leave people feeling bewildered and what most of our clients want is reassurance from someone they can trust,” Parker Bowles explains.
Ultimately, WRAPP10 wants to be that extremely stylish best friend that you can call on whenever you have a style conundrum.
“In my experience, most women like they way they look and value their own style and taste in clothes – they don’t want to look like someone else, they just want to be the best version of themselves,” she says. “A good stylist can help clients bring this out – a bit like a therapist, we can offer professional, objective advice.”
