Suspensions for Sports Betting
We recently learned that one of the NFL players is facing a suspension for sports betting. The player involved is Titans right tackle Nicholas Petit-Frere. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Petit-Frere will be suspended for six games due to gambling on non-NFL sports from a team facility.
In a statement released to Schefter, Petit-Frere emphasized that the betting he engaged in was not related to the NFL and was legal under Tennessee law. However, it is being sanctioned because it took place at the Titans facility. He also apologized to his family, coaches, teammates, and the Titans fans.
Petit-Frere claimed that he always strives to follow the rules and that he unknowingly broke them. Even after attending a league presentation, he was unaware of the specific rules regarding placing bets from a team facility. He expressed his commitment to helping the team during training camp and being prepared for his return to the roster during the season.
About Nicholas Petit-Frere
Nicholas Petit-Frere, a third-round pick in the 2022 draft, started 16 games for the Titans last season. He was expected to be the only remaining starter on a revamped offensive line for the 2023 season.
Additional Suspensions
Aside from Petit-Frere, Colts defensive back Isaiah Rodgers is also facing a suspension for sports betting. However, his suspension is expected to last for a year. Rodgers allegedly placed around 100 bets on an account opened under the name of an associate, with some bets reportedly involving Indianapolis games. Schefter reported that the announcement of Rodgers’ suspension and several others is expected to be made this week.
