Dayton School Board Accepting Applications for New Member
The Dayton School Board is currently accepting applications for a new member to fill the vacancy left by Zac Fabian, who resigned from Position 2 in December.
Fabian, who was elected to the board in 2021, had a term scheduled to last until 2027, according to Superintendent Jeremy Wheatley. While the exact reason for Fabian’s resignation is unknown, Wheatley speculated that it was due to a lack of time caused by other community commitments.
Wheatley expressed his appreciation for Fabian’s contributions, stating, “I found him to be thoughtful and helpful for me as a new superintendent. He has a lot of ideas and wants the best for Dayton School District.”
Application Process
Dayton residents residing in District 2 are eligible to apply for the vacant position until Friday, Jan. 31. The application and District 2 boundary map can be accessed on the school district’s website here.
Wheatley encourages all eligible individuals to apply for the position and attend the upcoming school board meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 22, either in person or via Zoom.
Interview and Appointment
Interviews for potential candidates will be conducted by the school board in February, with the new member expected to be appointed during the board’s second meeting of the month on Wednesday, Feb. 19.
As the new appointee takes over Position 2, a special election ballot will be held in the fall, giving the community an opportunity to elect a permanent board member for the position.
Get Involved
Wheatley encourages individuals interested in serving the community and making a difference in children’s education to consider applying for the vacant board position. He welcomes any inquiries and encourages interested parties to reach out for more information.
