Miami-Dade County exceeds expectations for its tourism growth in 2022, welcoming over 26.5 million visitors and generating over $20.8 billion in revenue, resulting in an 8% increase in tourism revenue from the previous year. The Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau’s 2022 Visitors Industry Overview report shows that 19.2 million people came for overnight stays, accounting for a 20% increase from 2021, and 7.3 million came for day-time visits, which dropped 12%, nearly balancing to 2019 figures. The average daily rate also rose by 14% to $253.11, and the largest gains in hotel revenues were among the mid- to upper-scale hotels. The international market, which saw a 2.7% rebound in 2022, contributed to 25% of the overall overnight market, with Colombia ranking as the leading international market for two consecutive years, followed by Brazil, Canada, and Mexico. Domestic overnight visitors mainly came from the Northeast and Midwest in 2022, and of the domestic overnight visitors, most went for vacation and pleasure travel. Miami Beach, downtown Miami and Brickell, and North Dade were the top accommodation areas, and the top attractions visited were the Miami Seaquarium, Wynwood Walls, and Lincoln Road. The return of the international visitor has been key to Miami’s success, says Bruce Orosz, bureau board chair, as the bureau continues to promote international travel to Greater Miami and Miami Beach through its reactivated international office network.
