The head of MI6 on Culture Wars and Representation
The head of the U.K.’s Secret Intelligence Service, Richard Moore, recently stated that MI6 does not engage in culture wars. This statement came in response to questions about his decision to add “he/him” to his Twitter bio and accusations that MI6 had become more “woke.”
Moore clarified that his focus is not on culture wars but on ensuring that MI6 better represents the country it serves. He believes that this is a noble and practical aim. Moore explained that diversity within the organization brings greater creativity and problem-solving abilities. He also emphasized the importance of officers from ethnic minority backgrounds who can provide cultural insights and blend in more effectively in certain parts of the world.
This rare interview with Moore was conducted by Anne McElvoy from POLITICO and can be viewed here.
