High School Varsity Roundup: Tuesday, May 23
Tuesday, May 23 saw high school varsity action across several classifications in Maryland. Here is a roundup of some of the games.
Reservoir 4, Huntingtown 0
In Class 3A state championship action, top-seed Gators (23-0) clinched a position in the final with a strong performance from pitcher Maggie Frisvold. Frisvold pitched a complete game shutout with 12 strikeouts and only two hits allowed. Abbie Frisvold led the offense with a double and two RBIs, while Maggie and Cambell Sagin also added RBIs to the Gators’ total.
Clear Spring 4, Pikesville 1
Pikesville’s season came to an end in the Class 1A state semifinals against defending champions Clear Spring. Pikesville started the game off strong, taking an early lead courtesy of Michael Hagan’s single in Max Levin. However, Clear Spring pitching proved too strong for the Panthers, limiting them to four hits in the game. Jack Millman contributed two of those hits for the Panthers. On the mound, Millman threw five innings, allowing four runs (two earned) on five hits while striking out five. Issac Garonzik pitched one perfect inning with two strikeouts.
Parkside 7, Sparrows Point 0
Sparrows Point struggled in its Class 2A semifinal against Parkside, giving up five runs in the first inning. Despite their best efforts to get their offense going, the Pointers could only muster two hits in the game courtesy of Ryan Zickefoose and Cody Burkman. The Pointers’ season came to an end with a record of 14-6.
