Sports Betting Contributes $6.5 Million to Maryland in December
The Maryland Lottery and Gaming reported that sports betting contributed $6.5 million to the state in December.
Growth in Sports Wagering Revenue
Between July 2024 and December 2024, sports wagering contributed a total of $46,576,505 to Maryland. This marked a significant increase from the $24,593,908 contributed during the same period in FY2024.
During December 2024, sports bettors in Maryland wagered a total of $637,301,168. They won back $591,678,179 in prizes.
Expansion of Sports Betting in Maryland
Since the launch of the state’s sports betting program in June 2021, Maryland has seen the launch of 11 mobile sports wagering platforms and 13 retail sportsbook locations.
Legalization of sports betting in Maryland occurred in June 2021, following overwhelming support from lawmakers and the public.
Impact on Education Funding
Contributions from sports betting in Maryland go towards the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future Fund, which supports public education programs.
Since the program’s launch in December 2021, more than $116 million has been allocated to the Blueprint fund.
