Acting Assistant Secretary for Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs Jennifer R. Littlejohn will travel to Seattle from August 5-8, 2023, to participate in the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Third Senior Officials’ Meeting (APEC SOM3).
Engagement in APEC Policy Partnership in Science, Technology, and Innovation
During her visit, she will take part in the APEC Policy Partnership in Science, Technology, and Innovation (PPSTI). Furthermore, she will have the honor to present the prestigious APEC Science Prize for Innovation, Research and Education (ASPIRE), which showcases outstanding young scientists who have excelled in research while being actively involved in collaborations with scientists from various APEC member economies.
Promotion of Inclusivity in STEM and the Women in STEM Principles and Actions Meeting
In addition, Acting Assistant Secretary Littlejohn will join the Women in STEM Principles and Actions meeting, where she will exchange valuable insights and best practices regarding inclusivity in STEM with colleagues from across the APEC region.
Discussion on Crucial Issues for Sustainable Growth
While in Seattle, Acting Assistant Secretary Littlejohn will seize the opportunity to meet with local government officials, business leaders, and innovators. The discussions will center around the vital role of policy, science, and technology innovation in fostering a sustainable economy. Additionally, they will address pressing global challenges including wildlife trafficking, illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing, and plastic pollution.
