Acting Assistant Secretary for Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs to Attend APEC SOM3 in Seattle
Acting Assistant Secretary for Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs Jennifer R. Littlejohn will be traveling to Seattle from August 5-8, 2023, to participate in the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Third Senior Officials’ Meeting (APEC SOM3).
Engaging in APEC Policy Partnership in Science, Technology, and Innovation (PPSTI)
During the event, Ms. Littlejohn will attend the APEC Policy Partnership in Science, Technology, and Innovation (PPSTI) and present the APEC Science Prize for Innovation, Research and Education (ASPIRE). ASPIRE recognizes young scientists who have showcased excellence in scientific research and collaboration with scientists from other APEC member economies.
Promoting Inclusivity in STEM
Additionally, Ms. Littlejohn will participate in the Women in STEM Principles and Actions meeting, where she will exchange best practices for inclusivity in STEM with colleagues from across the APEC region. This meeting aims to enhance diversity and equal opportunity in the field of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
Collaborating with Local Stakeholders
While in Seattle, Acting Assistant Secretary Littlejohn will meet with local government officials, business leaders, and innovators. The discussions will focus on the importance of policy implementation and science and technology innovation in fostering a sustainable economy. They will also address pressing global issues such as wildlife trafficking, illegal fishing practices, and plastic pollution.
