Jerry Jones Undecided on Mike McCarthy’s Future
Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones hasn’t determined whether or not Mike McCarthy will return as the head coach next season. But he did make it crystal clear following Sunday’s regular-season finale that he doesn’t want anyone here who doesn’t want to be here.
Interest in McCarthy from Other Teams
NFL insiders Adam Schefter and Jay Glazer reported last week that McCarthy would have suitors this offseason should Jones not bring him back, or if McCarthy wants to leave the Cowboys on his own.
Waiting on Contract Details
According to multiple reports, McCarthy’s contract runs through Jan. 14, so he’ll have to wait until then to converse with other organizations.
Jones’ Stance on McCarthy Speaking with Other Teams
When asked about McCarthy potentially speaking with other teams, Jones said, “I’d say ‘go talk.’ I wouldn’t want a coach here who wanted to be someplace else.”
Uncertainty About McCarthy’s Future
Jones wouldn’t indicate one way or the other which way he was leaning, and it appears as if we won’t know which way this will go until after he and McCarthy have a chance to meet later this week.
McCarthy’s Desire to Return
And if it were up to McCarthy, he’d be back.
