Iran Publishes 1,452 Scientific Journals, Leads in Science Diplomacy: Latest Statistics
Overview
According to the latest statistics released by the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology, Iran is home to 1,452 scientific journals. Out of these, 289 are indexed in the Scopus database and 67 journals are indexed in the Web of Science database. In addition, Iran has made impressive strides in science and technology, becoming one of the top countries in the world in fields such as Nano and Biotechnology, health, aerospace, nuclear, defense, infrastructure, medical centers, and oil refineries.

Increased Indexing of Journals in Scopus Database
Since President Ebrahim Raisi took office in August 2023, more than 45 scientific and research journals have been indexed by Scopus, according to the Deputy Health Minister Younes Panahi. He stated that the growth in Scopus-indexed publications has been unprecedented, with 180 publications currently indexed by Scopus compared to 135 before Raisi took office. In addition, 27,800 articles were registered by medical science researchers in the Scopus database in 2023.
Iran Leads in Science Diplomacy
The share of Iranian articles with international participation has grown significantly in the past eight years, becoming the Islamic world’s leading country in science diplomacy, according to the Scopus International Citation Database. In September 2023, the Deputy Science Minister Peyman Salehi stated that 18 articles published by Iranian researchers had been cited by Scopus International Citation Database, compared to a total of 101 in the past 40 years.
