San Antonio International Airport sees increase in nonstop flights
SAN ANTONIO – Airlines at the San Antonio International Airport are adding more nonstop and daily flights to popular travel destinations including Los Angeles, New York City, and Cancun, according to a news release from the airport on Tuesday.
With San Antonio expected to experience its busiest summer air travel season ever, several airlines have increased their offerings. The airport is anticipating ten percent more travelers this summer compared to the summer of 2019, prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.
New flight options
The new flight options available at San Antonio International Airport include:
-
Delta Air Lines will relaunch daily nonstop service to New York City (JFK) and add a third daily flight to Detroit (DTW), starting on May 8. Delta will also add a third daily flight to Minneapolis-St. Paul (MSP) on June 20.
-
Sun Country Airlines will resume service to Minneapolis-St. Paul (MSP) and Cancun (CUN) for the summer, from pre-Memorial Day to mid-August. The Cancun flight will be available on Sundays, Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays during that time.
-
Southwest Airlines will increase their nonstop daily service to Cancun starting on June 3. Southwest will also add a third daily flight for weekdays to Baltimore/Washington (BWI) and offer daily service to Kansas City (MCI) starting on July 11.
-
Spirit Airlines will add daily flights to Los Angeles (LAX) starting on May 5.
The news release notes that airlines may add more nonstop services in the coming months, as San Antonio anticipates a busy summer travel season.
“We’re so happy to see these new routes added just in time for summer—like Spirit Airlines starting nonstop service to California next month and to see Delta, Sun Country, and Southwest all add more flights,” said Jesus H. Saenz, Director of Airports for the San Antonio Airport System, in the release. “This increase in air service means more competitive fares giving more families the ability to travel and enjoy memorable experiences together.”
