Congress Faces Obstacles in Passing Health Care Legislation
WASHINGTON — With only two weeks until Congress leaves town in August, the progress of legislation aimed at increasing transparency in health care prices and changing Medicare drug payments has hit a roadblock. The House Energy & Commerce Committee has already introduced and unanimously passed a package of bills that includes transparency requirements for hospitals and pharmacy benefit managers, as well as a “site-neutral” pay policy for drugs administered in doctors’ offices. However, the House Ways & Means Committee is planning to release its own health care legislation, adding complications to the chamber’s effort to pass a bill soon, according to four lobbyists who spoke to STAT.
