The Bend municipal auto camp ground is set to open on April 1 for tourists with J.E. Michaels as the caretaker. Despite not expecting many tourists in April, Michaels will have plenty of work to do in getting the camp in shape after the winter closure. Unfortunately, vandals have removed doors from brick ovens built the year prior, and a registry book stolen during the previous season will need to be replaced. The camp, situated between Hill street and the Deschutes just north of Portland avenue, occupies five acres of ground and features a number of tables, six brick ovens, outbuildings, piped water, electric light, and wood during camping season. Additionally, Bend will celebrate National Garden Week from April 22 to 28, which the General Federation of Women’s clubs recently adopted as an annual event. On another note, a fire broke out in the Lumberman’s Hospital, but prompt action from Brooks-Scanlon office and plant employees, city firemen, and volunteers ensured that all nine patients emerged from the incident uninjured, and the damage was relatively minor, with a rough estimate of $2,500.
