The Amazing Path of the Human Evolution
Introduction
Have you ever wondered how we humans came into existence? How our ancestors looked like and what they did? Believe it or not, we all were apes at one point in time! Scientists have traced the path of human evolution that started millions of years ago with the primates.
The First Chapter – The Early Primates
Approximately 50 million years ago, the first-type of primates came into existence. This group mainly consisted of small creatures, and it was during this era, that the primate lineage split, giving birth to the monkeys and apes.
The Second Chapter – The Advent of Apes
Fast forwarding to approximately 23 million years ago, the first hominoid(ape) named Proconsul came into being. Although like apes, Proconsul didn’t walk only on his two legs yet; he still hung from trees and branches.
One of the most ancient apes is thought to be Sahelanthropus tchadensis. It existed around 6-7 million years ago and skull of this hominoid was found in Chad(on Africa’s north border). Although body remains of only about ten specimens have been found so far, it provides essential data for reconstructing the path of human evolution!
The Third Chapter – Emergence of First Hominids
The Hominidae category or the great apes came into existence about 8 million years ago, and that takes us one step further from our ape forefathers. These were enormous creatures resembling the orangutan, who resided in most lands in Africa and southern Europe.
The Fourth Chapter – The Sophisticated Hominins
It wasn’t until 3.3 million years ago that we saw the evolved and versatile hominids. Walking tall on two legs, they possessed fingers that could grasp and a fully functional human-like hand. The few hominins fossils, including the Lucy specimen, were found in East African Rift Valley, reveal cognitive and physical enhancements compared to their hominid relatives.
Conclusion
From humble beginnings, humans stands among the top-seeded beings on earth. The journey from ancient primates to modern-day homo sapiens has been a testament to supreme intelligence and the dynamic force, gradually tailoring us into perfectly adapt creatures who stand tall today.
