Things to do in Bangkok: 7-13 January 2025
Opium Bar’s 3rd year anniversary, with panel talks celebrating women in hospitality
8 January, 2.30-6pm
This week, the award-winning Chinatown bar Opium turns 3 years old. Kicking the celebration off will be a panel of powerful women in hospitality; their journey to leadership, and the glass ceilings they have broken. On the panel: Taln Rojanavanich of Bar Us and Messengerservice, Chef Pam of restaurant Potong, Kim Adulya of Bangkok Arts and Culture Centre, Alexandra Purcaru of North America’s Selva Oaxaca. The panel is hosted by Symphony Loo.

Cross Yu of EPIC, Kris Du of Speak Low, and Ryohei Yamagishi of The Odd Couple guest shift at Aqua Bar
8 January, 8-11pm
Prepare for trouble, and make it…triple? Shanghai is taking over Aqua Bar as Cross Yu, Kris Du, and Ryohei Yamagishi are guest bartending for one night only. They’re coming with their own signature menus, and the warm hospitality which shot their respective bars into becoming must-visit spots in their city.

Chef George Kataras kitchen takeover at Pavillion, Dusit Thani Bangkok
8-11 January, dinner only
Chef George Kataras is known for pushing the boundaries, serving up funky dishes that feel fun, yet don’t compromise on flavour. This led him to open restaurant Vanderveen, which received a Michelin star before it had to be closed during pandemic. Chef George will be taking over Dusit Thani’s Pavilion for four evenings, featuring a set dinner that you won’t forget in a hurry.

Maxwell Chen of Westland guest shift at The Pickwicks Chronicles
9 January, 9pm-midnight
From Taipei to Bangkok, Westland Bar & Bistro has guests come back again and again for their fun drinks, and with Maxwell Chen behind the bar, they know it’s going to be a great night. For one evening, he’ll be taking over The Pickwicks Chronicles, shaking up a storm and serving up his creations.

Three-month rotating art exhibition by Bill Bensley at Four Seasons Hotel Bangkok
10 January – 20 April
Bill Bensley is holding his first art exhibition of 2025, and unveiling his latest works for the first time. Inspired by his travels across 11 countries, the rotating exhibitions showcase Bensley’s care for nature and cultural diversity, and set to fund initiatives benefiting communities in Cambodia and Laos through the Shinta Mani Foundation. His latest works are to be displayed until 30 January, then the “The Ring of Fire” collection until 27 February, and “Call of the Cardamoms” collection until 20 April.

WOW Festival 2025 : Wonder Of Well-Living City, at Benchakitti Park
11-19 January
WOW Festival is all about envisioning a better city in the future, one filled with art and emitting low levels of carbon; one utilising technology to its fullest extent, and comfortable to live in for people of all ages. Benchakitti Park will be turned into a festival space, with a market offering sustainable products, a summit on sustainability in cities, and more.

Children’s Day weekend at Sababa
11-12 January
This Children’s Day, head on over to Sababa for their Mediterranean-Japanese cuisine and see what seasonal menu they came up with. Children gets to eat for free of charge, and their King Cake is available for pre-order. They also started opening for lunch, 11am onwards, so feel free to make plans and pop by. The pet-friendly space ensures it’s fun for the whole family.

Chefs Florian Stolte and Slawomir Kowalik four-hand dinner at Bistrot De La Mer
12-13 January, dinner only
It’s a clash of the cuisines, in the best way possible. Chef Florian Stolte of Restaurant 1789, Washington, DC, is renowned for serving up refined American flavours working with seasonal ingredients. He’ll join hands with Bistrot De La Mer’s Chef de Cuisine Slawomir Kowalik who’s known for his French and Mediterranean flair. Together, they’re serving up dinner, with highlights including Canadian lobster, pan-seared foie gras, and aged muscovy duck.

New Italian set lunch at Bella Sera
From today onwards, 12-3pm
Italian dining spot Bella Sera just launched an all-new Italian set lunch, perfect for a power lunch before going back to face the troubles of the day. Highlights include the quintessentials from the cuisine cooked from the heart, from braised Bolognese tagliatelle, to pizza Diavola topped with spicy salami and fresh rucola.
