Clothing Connection Fashion Show celebrates Earth Day at COCC
The annual Clothing Connection Fashion Show at Central Oregon Community College (COCC) will showcase over 25 models walking the runway on Friday, April 21, in honor of Earth Day. The event is a benefit for a free service that provides school and work clothing to students of COCC and Oregon State University-Cascades.
Models will wear donated clothing, including upcycled artistic garments created by OSU-Cascades art students. The show will feature two runway events, at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Admission to the show is free, although organizers encourage donations. Pre-registration is required and available online at cocc.edu/departments/student-life/clothing-connection/.
“Earth Day is a natural fit to draw attention to both this important and well-utilized service and the need to recycle clothing,” said Angie Cole, co-coordinator of the Clothing Connection and associate professor of education at COCC.
Shopping with intention
The Wille Hall lobby will feature a pop-up shop by several local resale shops during the event. This will encourage attendees to consider supporting the planet by recycling clothing and shopping with intention. Last year’s inaugural event raised $1,200 for buying clothing fixtures and supporting program costs.
Supporting the community
The Clothing Connection accepts new and gently used clothing donations, from casual to professional wear. The program was started in 2016 by COCC as a way to help students acquire items that best suit their needs for job interviews, class practicums, and the workplace. Contact clothingconnection@cocc.edu for more information on how to support this program.
