Changing Mindset Key to Increase Educational Participation in Muslim Community, says Dr. Anwar Shaikh
On 16th April 2023, Akhil Bharatiya Samajwadi Shikshan Haq Sabha hosted a lecture on ‘Educational Problems and Current Status of Minority Community’ which was presided over by Prof. Sharad Javadekar. Among the various issues discussed, the dropout rate among Muslim children due to several reasons was highlighted. According to Principal Dr. Anwar Shaikh, the key to changing this status quo lies in changing the mindset of Muslim youth.
While there is a positive trend in Muslim parents’ attitude towards their children’s education, many households still have first generation learners and graduates, including girls from families with a poor economic condition. However, the belief system of young people regarding job prospects after education and anti-government sentiments continue to impact educational participation and increase dropout rates.
Furthermore, in his presidential speech, Prof. Sharad Javadekar expressed concern over an anti-Muslim environment that is currently being created and some of the society’s sections being deliberately kept at bay. The government’s budget has made substantial cuts in minority spending, including shutting down pre-matric, post-matric, and Maulana Azad scholarships, making it difficult for students to continue their education without financial aid.
