Afternoon Curfew Enforced at Fashion District of Philadelphia for Minors

The Fashion District of Philadelphia will enforce an afternoon curfew for anyone under the age of 18 starting Monday. Minors will not be allowed to enter the shopping mall without an adult over the age of 23 after 2 p.m. This new policy comes in response to recent disturbances involving young people who were unaccompanied by adults. Previously, a weekend curfew was in place, but now it will be in effect daily.

Fashion District officials are working with the city to enforce this policy. Anyone who appears to be 18 or younger may be asked for proof of age by security or law enforcement. Employees under 18 arriving for work past 2 p.m. will be asked to present identification stating their place of employment. This will not affect their ability to work at the center during these hours. The curfew will remain in effect until further notice.
Response from Philadelphia Police Department
The Philadelphia Police Department made it clear that private security hired by the mall will be responsible for checking IDs for mall entry. Police officers will respond to crime and enforce laws, but the responsibility of enforcing the Fashion District’s new code of conduct falls on private security.
Recently, Philadelphia police had to disperse large crowds of juveniles around the area due to fighting and disturbances. The new curfew is an effort to curb such incidents in the future, and according to Fashion District officials, they have the full support of the city in implementing this policy.
