Tepper Sports & Entertainment and Panthers Complete CPR Training with American Heart Association

Tepper Sports & Entertainment (TSE) staff members, Panthers players, and the team’s PSL Owners (season ticket holders) gathered to complete the American Heart Association’s Heartsaver® CPR AED course in Charlotte, NC. The course provides participants with training in essential lifesaving skills like CPR and the appropriate use of an AED. CPR training has become a priority for TSE, following Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin’s cardiac arrest incident during Monday Night Football on January 2.

Nicole Tepper, wife of owner David Tepper, stated, “Damar’s experience highlights the critical importance for CPR training. We are pleased to offer our staff the opportunity to complete this course, and we pledge our commitment to the importance of CPR training to our community. The more people who know CPR, the more lives we can save.”

Atrium Health, the official healthcare partner of the team, offered PSL Owners the chance to learn Hands-Only CPR during the event. Hands-Only CPR has been shown to be as effective as conventional CPR in the first few minutes of a cardiac arrest emergency, whether it happens at home, work, or in a public space.

The American Heart Association publishes the official guidelines for CPR and is the global leader in resuscitation science, education, and training. With almost 3 out of 4 cardiac arrests outside the hospital occurring at home, the ability to perform CPR is crucial in saving lives. Each year, over 350,000 people in the United States experience cardiac arrest outside a medical facility, making quick and competent CPR administration essential.

According to Nancy Brown, the CEO of the American Heart Association, “Knowing how to respond in a cardiac emergency when seconds matter is literally the difference between life and death. We are so proud to stand alongside Tepper Sports and Entertainment and the Carolina Panthers to educate and add more lifesavers in the community.”

Panthers’ players like Jeremey Chinn, Marquis Haynes, and Johnny Hekker, were in attendance, and Damar Hamlin was there personally to support the event hosted at the Panthers’ Atrium Health Dome in uptown Charlotte. David and Nicole Tepper’s charitable organization, the David and Nicole Tepper Foundation, made a donation to support carrying on the American Heart Association’s mission.

The Heart Association’s CPR training and education program reflects TSE’s use of Bank of America Stadium and the Atrium Health Dome as community assets. During the 2023 and 2023 election cycles, Bank of America Stadium served as an early voting site and provided nearly 117,000 vaccinations during the COVID vaccinations in 2023. In 2023, the stadium hosted 39 events, following 14 events in 2017.

The formal credentialing process for Tepper Sports & Entertainment staff ends with this CPR training event, empowering them to act with confidence in emergent events at work, home, or in the community. Participants heard from various experts, including Nancy Brown, Damar Hamlin, Nicole Tepper, Sherry Saxonhouse, M.D., Carolina Panthers head athletic trainer Kevin King, and Dermot Phelan, M.D., among others.
