Main Part
The City Council of Corpus Christi, TX, convened for its regular meeting on Tuesday and approved a resolution in collaboration with the Nueces River Authority of Uvalde, Texas. The approved resolution authorizes a one-year service agreement with the authority for an amount not exceeding $61,125. The purpose of this agreement is to provide water conservation education to approximately 4,021 students enrolled in local school districts.
Water Conservation Education Program
The Nueces River Authority will implement a comprehensive water conservation education program aimed at fifth-grade students attending public schools in six independent school districts (ISDs) within the City of Corpus Christi. Spanning the upcoming 2023-2024 academic year, the participating ISDs are Corpus Christi ISD, London ISD, Tuloso-Midway ISD, Calallen ISD, West Oso ISD, and Flour Bluff ISD. Certified educators will lead the program.
The education program will feature various instructional techniques, including the utilization of a watershed model and hands-on activities. These resources will help students comprehend the entry and contamination of rivers, bays, and aquifers by harmful pollutants. Additionally, students will learn about their significance in preserving and conserving water resources.
Water Conservation 365 Initiative
The collaboration between the City Council and the Nueces River Authority is an integral part of Corpus Christi Water’s Conservation 365 initiative. This initiative aims to educate the public about the importance of water conservation throughout the year, ensuring a continuous effort to protect the region’s water resources.
