A round-up of recent news and updates about businesses in West Hartford is sponsored by NBT Bank. Despite August being a slow time for businesses due to vacations, there have been some noteworthy developments. The Frenchie Co., an avant-garde “smart-luxury accessories brand,” has opened its first permanent U.S. location at Westfarms, marking its entry into Connecticut. The brand offers hand-crafted wallets and bags made from Italian leather, carbon fiber, and ballistic nylon, as well as a custom line of self-adjusting and expandable backpacks. The store also plans to debut antibacterial clothing infused with copper and silver. The Squishable pop-up has also returned to Westfarms, offering fluffy round spheres in various shapes and sizes. In other news, CVS will be closing its West Hartford Center store on September 20 due to a rent increase. All employees will be relocated to other nearby stores. The build-out of Boqueria, a Barcelona-inspired tapas bar, is ongoing at the former Balos space in Blue Back Square. While no opening date has been announced, the restaurant has been actively hiring. Additionally, Black Bamboo has reinstated its lunch specials and will be donating a portion of the proceeds to a local organization.
