Homelessness Crisis in Anchorage

The homeless situation is deteriorating progressively in Anchorage. Some neighborhoods have become dumping grounds. After much research, it appears it may legally be the city’s responsibility to make this city livable for its residents, and the city may possibly be held civilly liable for causing injuries even to a homeless person or any resident through their negligence of responsibilities. We should not have to live with trash, open sales of illegal drugs, junk automobiles, broken down RV’s on streets, violence, and fear. Many residents and the homeless do now live in fear because they are not safe.

The Assembly needs to take immediate responsibility, not wait for two more months to go by to discuss the issue of the navigation center again. It may not be the fix-all, but it’s a start to really do something. Just find the money — city, state, or federal — and forget politics. We should not have to wait years or months. It is a majority of residents and businesses in Anchorage who are fed up. The Assembly and mayor’s office spent two years arguing over mundane and harmless issues of wearing a mask, and don’t forget the ever-important plastic bag issue, not to mention questionable ethics, dealings, and racism permeating throughout all the last few years. Perhaps they are wishing the homeless to be largely eradicated like a virus. Winter is coming, and summer has not been all that great so far. Or perhaps they can just end homelessness the same way, as the virus and just declare it officially over.

It is our city. This problem continues to get worse as the Assembly and the administration continue their ridiculous posturing. Has anyone on these committees figured out that anywhere there is a liquor store nearby, there are tents?
