The Beaver County Library System is thrilled to announce its upcoming “History Alive” events in collaboration with the Heinz History Center. These events, set to take place in August, will provide fascinating insights into the history of western Pennsylvania.
“H.J. Heinz: A Recipe for Success” Lecture
On August 2nd at 1 p.m., the B.F. Jones Memorial Library in Aliquippa will host a captivating lecture titled “H.J. Heinz: A Recipe for Success.” Historians and curators from the Heinz History Center will shed light on the incredible story behind one of Pittsburgh’s most iconic brands. They will share the journey of H.J. Heinz, who started with a small garden and went on to establish a global food business that still upholds the principles set by its founder.
“Winning the War in the Skies” Lecture
On August 30th at 6 p.m., The Air Heritage Aviation Museum in Chippewa Township will present an immersive lecture entitled “Winning the War in the Skies.” This event will delve into the pivotal role played by western Pennsylvania in World War II aviation. The museum will showcase numerous World War II artifacts, including the historic C-47 “Luck of the Irish,” which made significant contributions to critical battles.
Leslie Przybylek, Heinz History Center senior curator, expressed her excitement for the event, stating, “Talking about western Pennsylvania’s aviation development during World War II is especially significant in Beaver County, as the region played a crucial role in the defense effort. The Curtiss-Wright propeller factory, though short-lived, should not be overlooked, and this event provides a wonderful opportunity to highlight its importance.”
Thomas Gargaro, President of the Air Heritage Aviation Museum, added, “This lecture complements our extensive collection of World War II aviation artifacts. We are excited to display these artifacts alongside the stories shared during this event, offering visitors a unique experience.”
