Airport starts new terminal project to enhance travel.

Ogden-Hinckley airport held a ground breaking for it new terminal entrance, which will expand the pick up and drop-off areas and move the baggage claim indoors.

It is set to be completed by October 2025 and will cost around $4.4 million, according to Ogden City Mayor Ben Nadolski.

According to Nadolski, the project gave the city an opportunity to rebuild trust with the community. Over the years, Ogden-Hinckley Airport has had its share of problems, including safety and financial troubles.

In the last decade, there have been serial airplane crashes, the last one happening in July. Although the crash did not happen at the airport, Airport Director Brian Condie said by summer time they will repave and repaint the runway.

The airport has also faced some financial issues. In April, the State Legislature released an audit that found the airport had been losing money every year since 2006.

In response to a question about the audit, Nadolski said the audit highlighted areas the airport needed to fix.

“That report brought clarity. It gave us a clear standards to focus on. And made it really clear that accountability is important, and for me as mayor I don’t hide from accountability at all,” Nadolski said.

Improving Community Trust and Safety

City leaders said the terminal project is the first of many improvements to regain community trust and improve safety.

Nadolski said, “Accountability is part of the culture that we’re creating here, and accountability when you do things right actually bring daylight to impact and good progress and good things.”

Future Plans for Ogden-Hinckley Airport

Long-term, airport officials plan to attract more commercial airlines to fly out of Ogden, but airport leaders said their first goal is to improve customer service, enhance safety and renew the community’s trust.

“I am focused on proving the terminal and customer service and that will attract carriers that will come in here,” Condie said.
